Migrating Cape May Warblers
September 2025
In early fall, Cape May Warblers passed through my backyard on their journey south. For a few days I was able to stand in my backyard and watch them dart through the pine-brush and honeysuckle leaves in search of berries and insects for the remainder of their trip.
It was a fascinating, adrenaline-filled time as I tried to capture these beautiful, colorful, travelers before they continued on their journey.
In the humid heat, the Cape May Warbler shifted along the branch, feeding on the gnats in the thick air
As i was photographing the Cape May Warblers, I did not even realize that I had captured a photo of a Tennessee Warbler and a rare glimpse of a Blue-headed Vireo. Also migrating south at the time

Blue-headed Vireo
These Cape May Warblers and other passing birds were a brief but welcome encounter - one stop along a much longer migration.
